The Dartmoor Cycling Camp is your ultimate UK based Sportive Boot Camp! It's an awesome way to discover the breathtaking beauty of Dartmoor National Park whilst building your ride fitness and bike skills. Our Ride Leaders are all local cyclists with an extensive knowledge of the best cycle routes in the area. All our rides are bespoke, crafted to suit the individual skills and abilities of our clients. Our rides will be challenging but we always ensure your accumulative training stress levels are appropriate. Our aim is to ensure you leave us having completed a productive weeks training - not totally fatigued!
The Dartmoor Cycling Camp is designed for the Sportive cyclist. Our training schedule adopts a holistic approach, with structured training rides, skills sessions & seminars covering the complete range of topics essential to sportive & endurance cycling. We will work with you to develop your ride fitness and bike skills. We may tell you a few Dartmoor myths but we will also bust a few cycling ones!
The 2018 Dartmoor Cycling Camp will run from Bellever Youth Hostel, nestled right in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, ensuring that you will be able to discover the enchanting beauty of Dartmoor with every ride. Dartmoor National Park is the jewel of the South West, occupying 365 square miles of stunning Devonshire countryside, with miles of quiet roads and stunning views for you to explore.
At Just Events we are passionate about our sport. We pride ourselves in the quality of our promotions and our attention to detail with everything we do. Prior to your arrival we will be available to offer our support and advise you as you prepare for the camp. On your arrival our professional mechanics will complete a safety check of your bike and our British Cycling coaches will consult with you about your event goals & training objectives. We will also assess your ride fitness. These steps will enable us to tailor the weeks schedule appropriately. Clients will complete daily rides in Ability Groups, ensuring everyone gets the best possible training opportunity.
Each day we will take you out for a structured training ride, exploring different areas of Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside. Before each ride we will tell you your personal 'training objective(s)'. Your Ride Leader will help you attain these goals whilst you are out enjoying your ride. The distance and intensity of each ride will vary depending on ability and fatigue levels within each group. Some rides will be short but high-intensity whilst others will be longer, lower intensity, endurance based rides. All rides are fully supported by ride leaders, mechanic, medic, and a recovery vehicle. Energy drinks & snacks will also be supplied for all rides.
After each ride we will hold Skills Sessions (Practical) and Training Seminars (Classroom), further developing your cycling knowledge and skills. After each session has been completed, we will look for you to incorporate that knowledge into your daily routine, reinforcing the skills learnt. We will also have a sports massage therapist available during the week, offering remedial treatment where required (Massage service fees are not included).
We have a professional mechanic and specialist cycle fitter resident on the course. They will be available to help where required but you will be expected to carry out your own routine bike maintenance (post skills session). We will carry a small stock of essential items which can be purchased if required. There is a dedicated cycle storage barn where you can clean, maintain and securely store your bike(s) We will supply all the tools and kit for you to be able to do this.
On Saturday we will have a 'Sportive Experience' ride where you will have the opportunity to put into practice all of the skills you have learnt over the week. In the evening we will go out for the evening to enjoy a real Dartmoor cultural experience and the opportunity to socialize.
On Sunday, the final day of the camp, all groups go out together for a relaxed social ride, and a traditional Dartmoor cream tea before course dispersal.
There is an option on the Monday for you to attend a full FTP (Functional Theshold Power) Test session and have your Heart Rate & Power Zones calculated and set for you by a qualified British Cycling Level 3 Coach. This session is not included in the camp fee and would need to be booked in advance. FTP Tests take approximately 1 hour to complete and are offered at the special camp rate of just £30.
